What pain medication can you take after gastric bypass?

For the first days/weeks after the gastric bypasses, patients have prescribed pain medications by the doctor. Once the pain alleviates, they may take some other meds, such as acetaminophen (e.g. Extra Strength Tylenol). Patients after gastric bypass cannot take any meds containing aspirin for the first month. Also, such products as naproxen, ibuprofen must be avoided. If patients have doubts about which medications are allowed, they should ask the surgeon for advice and explanation. Gastric bypass is a serious surgery and any pain relievers must be discussed with the surgeon.
