How painful is a breast reduction?

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia, so during the procedure patients do not feel anything. When patients wake up, they are under strong pain medications and anaesthesia, so the pain still may not come. Yet, as soon as the pain killers alleviate, patients start to feel pain which is quite intense in the first days. A doctor always prescribes strong medications and antibiotics which decrease pain intensity. Painfulness of the postoperative recovery period depends on pain tolerance. If you have low pain tolerance, the pain can be really acute. Yet, the good news is that after a few days only, the pain alleviates and after a week, many patients stop taking any pain medications.
