How is bone grafting done for dental implants?

The dentist will make an incision in the area where the graft will be made, lifting and separating the gum to place the bone graft. The area will be covered with a membrane that will preserve the graft and the gum will be put back in place. The graft must be completely covered by the gum to prevent it from being contaminated by saliva. On average, a bone graft can take 3-4 months to heal and only after this, the dental implant will be placed.
