How to reduce bruising after blepharoplasty?

How to reduce bruising after surgery is a common question. Any surgical procedure which ‘breaks’ the skin will result in some bruising. Bruising after eyelid surgery is no different, however it can be minimised. Bruising and swelling after eyelid surgery is the body’s normal response to such a trauma and it will normally peak about 3 days after the surgery when it begins to turn a purple colour. As the body repairs itself the bruising will change colour over the next couple of weeks, becoming blue, green, yellow and brown before it fades completely. Some ways of how to reduce swelling and bruising after eyelid surgery include using a cold compress and sleeping on your back with the head in an elevated position. It is also best to avoid sun exposure.
