What is blepharoplasty procedure?
A surgical blepharoplasty can be used to correct eye bags, hooded eyes, loose skin or sagging skin around the eyes, fatty deposits under the eyes, eyelid wrinkles and so-called heavy eyelids. As with any medical procedure, patients are encouraged to prepare themselves beforehand by following a healthy diet, keeping hydration levels high and trying to stop smoking.
The operation is normally done under general anaesthesia, although, depending on the surgeon and specific procedure, a local anaesthesia may be used. For surgery on the upper eyelids the surgeon will make an incision along the crease of the eyelid. After the necessary fat or excess skin removal the incision will be closed with stitches or sutures and , because of its position any scarring should not be visible. For surgery on the lower eyelid the incision is made just below the eyelashes or even inside the lower eyelid. Excess fat, muscle and sagging eye skin is removed or redistributed and again the incision is closed with minimal residual visible scarring.
