What is eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty, more commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a plastic surgery procedure to enhance the appearance of the eyes. There are different types of eyelid surgery – upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery and double eyelid surgery (Asian blepharoplasty) where those people without a natural crease in their eyelid can have one created. These different types of surgical procedures, or facial cosmetic surgery, are used to treat varying anomalies in the eye area and are also sometimes advertised as drooping eyelid surgery, eye bag surgery, lazy eyelid surgery or even saggy eyelid surgery.

Corrections to the area are achieved by the removal or repositioning of skin and/or tissue as well as reinforcement of the muscle and tendon tissues. This involves work not only on the upper and lower eyelid but also on the upper area of the nose and cheeks.

A very specific type of eyelid lift is the Asian eyelid surgery, so-called because it is often the eye lift surgery performed on people of Asian origin who wish to have wider eyes similar to those people of white European ethnicity.
