When gastric sleeve doesn't work?

There are 5 main reasons causing gastric sleeve failure. They are:

• lack of patient’s awareness of the idea of the gastric sleeve (the main assumption of the surgery is decreasing the stomach size by even 80%, so the food intake also decreases by 80% and if patients do not realize that and continue overeating, the surgery ends up in failure)
• returning to an unhealthy diet after losing weight
• lack of regular exercising
• medications (there are meds that trigger weight gain, e.g. steroids, antidepressants, beta-blockers, some patients who take such meds regularly often do not realize the relation between lack of weight loss and taking them, so it is important to always discuss it with the surgeon)
•  technical reasons (a surgeon may remove too little/too much stomach or omit the part with ghrelin).
