What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty (labia surgery) is a vaginal rejuvenation surgery which belongs to the group of cosmetic procedures dedicated to women. It is a plastic surgery which either increases or reduces the size of labia majora (large lips, outer folds) and/or labia minora (small lips, inner folds). It can be regarded as both plastic and reconstructive surgery. Labiaplasty plastic surgery aims at improving the appearance of labia majora and minora and reducing the discomfort in the female genitalia area.

During this procedure, a plastic surgeon can make the following changes:

• removing the excess tissue from the labia – labia majora reduction or/and labia minora reduction – this cosmetic surgery is called a reduction labiaplasty;
• injecting a special filler material or own fat into the labia to make it larger – these surgical procedures are called enlarging labiaplasty;
• reconstructing labia from some other tissues (reconstruction labiaplasty surgery).

The most popular labioplasty is a reduction labia majora surgery – it greatly improves the look of the labia and improves women’s comfort e.g. during practicing sport or wearing a swimsuit.
