How To Bandage An Ear After Surgery?

Wind care is very important after any operation. Ear dressings are often not required for very long, but they can be fiddly to apply and keep in place. The easiest way is to cover the wound with gauze and then create a ‘pocket’ by using two pieces of sticky surgical tape, stuck together down one side. This forms the ‘pocket’ which can be placed over the ear to keep the gauze in place.

In more complex cases bandages wrapped around the head may be required. Although the dressings are not required for long, it is essential to wear a protective headband. An otoplasty recovery headband should be worn all the time for about 7-14 days after the procedure and then during sleep at night for about a month. This prevents the ears becoming damaged and protects the wound.
