What Are The Risks of Plastic Surgery?

Plastic surgery risks are similar to those in post-surgical complications. They include anaesthesia risks and the usual surgical risks such as scarring, inflammation, swelling, infection, fluid accumulation, fat necrosis and skin numbness. There may also be problems with bleeding, haematomas and blood clots. In addition, with silicone implants, side effects may include rejection by the body, movement of the implant in situ and the possibility of rupture. One further risk is that the result of the surgery does not meet expectations, sometimes this can be rectified by further surgery, however this highlights the importance of having realistic expectations. Levels of plastic surgery risks and complications vary slightly from procedure to procedure, however, in general, they are low in healthy individuals.
