What Is Open Rhinoplasty?

Open rhinoplasty is an invasive operation which is used for those who need extensive nose contouring or reduction. With an open rhinoplasty procedure, an open rhinoplasty incision is made in the skin between the nostrils underneath the nose. The skin is then lifted, allowing the surgeon access to the nasal cavity. Compared to closed rhinoplasty the surgeon has a much better view of what he/she is doing during open rhinoplasty surgery. This is the technique usually used for an open septorhinoplasty. As with any invasive surgery there will be an open rhinoplasty scar as well as open rhinoplasty swelling.
